CHRISTMAS IS IN DANGER!!

Not if Superman can help Santa down the ol’ chimney it won’t be!  During the 1940’s, DC Comics produced many very memorable Christmas covers on titles such as Batman, Action Comics, Comic Cavalcade, Sensation Comics, Adventure Comics and others.  These covers often featured the heroes in festive scenes with Santa Claus, Christmas Trees and delivering gifts to children.  Today, these Christmas covers have become very collectible.  Unfortunately, the tradition of the annual Christmas covers on many of the popular DC Comics magazines did not generally continue past the 1940’s.

The cover of Action Comics shown above, with pencils by Wayne Boring and inks by Stan Kaye, has a common theme with many of the other Christmas covers of the time – Santa Claus is featured with one of the popular heroes who are assisting him in his mission of delivering toys to all the good girls and boys throughout the world.  On this cover, Santa is in a bind that only a “super push” down the chimney can fix.  Other great Superman Christmas covers appeared on Action Comics #93 and Action Comics #117.
