#FlashbackFriday to the yesteryear of wheels and wings, and the artistry and technology of an earlier era. With the advent of the internal combustion engine in the late 1800s, came the first experimentation with motorizing bicycles. The first acknowledged motorcycle design was introduced in 1885 in the form of the Daimler Reitwagen, and the first mass produced model debuted in 1894, manufactured by Hildebrand & Wolfmüller. Since then, motorcycles have developed iconic status both in transportation and in popular culture. From military use to fuel-efficient transport to biker club mainstay, these two-wheeled marvels have woven their way into the fabric of our roadways and our imagination.
If cruising the roads is not your thing, then maybe you love taking to the skies instead. Ever since the Wright brothers debuted the flight of their first airplane in 1903, humans have been fascinated by air travel. Airplane technology developed quickly, and military aircraft first saw limited use in World War I. The first jet aircraft emerged in the early 1940s, with passenger airliners widely in use by the early 1950s. Air technology continues to advance today, with many experimental planes that often resemble something straight out of science fiction.
