“The Case of the Practical Joker”

DETECTIVE COMICS #91, September 1944. Cover Artist: Dick Sprang.

What happens when the Clown Prince of Crime is the victim of the practical jokes he loves to play on others?  Batman is suspicious when he learns that the Joker is the target of such japes while still in prison, but it turns out the entire episode has been engineered by the madman himself in order to escape and begin a new wave of robberies.  After briefly eluding Batman and Robin, the Joker is captured in a music store, bringing his latest criminal composition to an end.
